I am pleased to report that our district application for funding to build a home for a family living with a serious disability has been successful. LCIF has approved $30,000.00 assistance for our district partnership with Habitat to build a low cost home in Azilda . A building lot has been donated by the City of Sudbury.

As part of our district application, a committee of Lions and Habitat members selected a qualifying family following a process which included a local advertising campaign and interviewing process. The family has been approved by LCIF and are now eager to participate in our district awareness campaign and planning for the building project.

Total estimated cost for this building project, excluding the building lot, is $80,000.00. As LCIF will be providing $30,000.00, the balance to be raised in partnership with Habitat is $50,000.00. As our partnership with Habitat is a 50/50 arrangement, District A-5 fundraising goal is $25,000.00!

Our plan is to begin building early next spring, 2003. We have pledged to LCIF to complete our fundraising and to have on account by Feb. 15th/03 the necessary funding. Sudbury Habitat has partnered with us in making this pledge.

We are appealing to all clubs of District A-5 to help in this cause. Although this project is located in Azilda, this is a district commitment as required by LCIF since the overall intent is to encourage future Lions partnerships with Habitat chapters in other communities.

We would appreciate your club support of any amount. If your club is willing to conduct a fundraising event, please let us know so we can include the details in our reports and publicity.
